The standard FA coaching drills often have one ball between lots of kids. There's a lot of queuing and waiting around and too much emphasis on position and tactics.
Instead, our whole club has adopted the innovative Coerver Coaching method. Devised in the 1970s by visionary Dutch coach Wiel Coerver, his methods have been developed into a complete Coerver pyramid of player development with the emphasis on technique.
In order to win, many junior clubs teach kids what can only be described as 'pub football' - hoofing the ball forward towards a 'big lad' in the hope of a lucky bounce or that it will fall to one of a couple of skilful players.
At FCB, we want all our kids to be skilful. In a typical Coerver training session, kids usually have a ball each and get hundreds of touches, making every player comfortable on the ball and laying strong foundations for FC Bluestar's trademark passing football style.
The Coerver method has shown that any child who is prepared to listen and practice can achieve a high level of technical skill. Check out this week's Coerver practice video.
FCB is the only club in the area to use the Coerver method. Instead of just cherry picking the kids who already have 'natural talent', we want to teach all the kids to play great football.
