Coerver is a carefully structured system of technical development devised by visionary Dutch coach Wiel Coerver. Kids are grounded in excellent basic skills: ball control; first touch; accurate passing and how to beat an opponent 1v1 with skilful moves.
Coerver is about free-flowing, fast break, attacking football, so speed and finishing ability are encouraged from an early stage. These basic building blocks all come together at the top of the pyramid in group play. Freeze-frame any game and there are relatively few players actively involved in the move. So, Coerver teaches kids to win at 2v1, 2v2, 3v2 and 3v3. Winning these 'mini-plays' all over the pitch gives you control of the game.
All this takes time. Kids are encouraged to experiment and to try out their emerging skills in matches. They make lots of mistakes. Passing moves break down and skilful tricks don't always beat the defender. Other teams' 'kick and rush' tactics are often more effective at this age. We recognise that trying to play skilful football will lose us a few more matches. But ultimately what we are doing is better for the kids. Matches are great to watch and even better to play in!
Imagine a kids' team where every child develops confidence on the ball. Where every kid has a trick, can beat an opponent and can pass the ball. That's the big idea. That's FC Bluestar.
