3-3 Draw

This was a draw for a while looked like it could and would, never happen. Barely ten minutes into the match and we were already 3 goals down with our heads so far down we looked like ostriches. However something magical happened following a lovely cross from Benjamin to Jose which resulted in a perfect lob over the Lisbon goalie's head to give us one goal back in the 13th minute. 13 unlucky for some, but not for Jose. Lucky for Galaxy too as it gave them the necessary fire in their bellies to fight the good fight. Nowt more happened in the first half but half time saw us regroup and, with a little jiggery pokery positions wise, our lads came out ready for action.

This was to be Jose's match. A 13 yard shot saw the ball land in the top left corner....( there's that number 13 again!) followed by an accurate header. All three goals down to Jose and the score was now equal, as it was to remain until the whistle blew.

Galaxy V Stockport Vikings Saturday 23rd November Fog Lane
4-3 Win!

Phew! What a match ! Can't comment as I wasn't there but by all acounts it was the match of the season. Feel free to email me a report and I will resist editing it and put it straighton here.

Galaxy V Cheadle and Gatley B Sunday 30th November Didsbury Park
3-1 Win!
Another super match with a nail biting 1st half when we kicked off the scoring with a fantastic penalty taken by cucumber cool Patrick to bring his goal tally to 3 so far this season, more than some mid-fielders!( You know who you are!)
We were a little slack in the first half and didn't run the game like we ought to have. We were clearly significantly faster than our opponents, (and its not often we can say that, to be frank), so we should have been running rings around them. We did however put a second goal past them in the first half courtesy of a gorgeous accurate strike from Johnny.

It's a credit to the team that they are attacking every match now with vim and vigour and going out, especially in the second half of matches and giving their all. Wasn't it the season before last that we were doing the same...warming up in the first half and doing what we should have been doing all along in the second half? Remember when we played 7 - aside how we often should have played the friendly first and the league match second?

I digress. Second half out we come and within a few short minutes a pass from Aidan or Johnny, (both claim it , neither can prove it and I can't remember- all opinions to Nadine asap and I will rectify or I will claim the pass for myself!))) to Benjamin gave him the chance to land a 20 yard scorcher into the back of the net. From then on we owned the second half, but strangely couldn't get any more goals, despite Aidan running his legs off and almost blowing his top, about which we shall say no more , suffice to say that we are all gentlemen in Galaxy, aren't we???

Special mention for all three matches to Elliott who has really settled fantastically well into defence, playing both on the right and the left. As I watch the ball move towards our defenders now I KNOW that there is very little chance that Callum will be troubled in the goal mouth. Well done to Elliott and as always Abdullah, Tinashe and Patrick.

Cheadle and Gatley C V Galaxy Full Time 0-4

Stunningly hot, sunny weather greeeted us today on our outing to Gatley, but a lukewarm greeting to say the least from C&G who seemed not to be expecting us. A bit of faffing and finally they were ready to kick off.We didn't really know what to expect today. The team was called C&G 'C' but although there is an 'A' team there is apparently is no 'B' team. Can't think what that does for the self esteem of the poor old 'C' team. Well actually we found out pretty quickly what it does for their self esteem, it makes them rely heavily on their studs and less on their footballing skills on the pitch.
Back to the match. Kick off and two minutes in we are one nil up. Four minutes later and the second goal goes in.By half time we are 3-0 up and our opposition are flagging badly. Their reaction after half time is not to up their play and mark up, try a bit more passing etc but to go in hard and heavy to every tackle and take our lads out. Can I now congratulate Mini, Travis, Aidan and the rest of the gang who found themselves beneath a full set of studs applied with force to their feet, ankles, and even shins, well done guys. You kept your cool and more to the point kept playing football.
Back to those goals. What's great about the season so far is the spread of goals in the matches so far.Even Patrick and Aidan have bagged a goal each. Today was no exception with Jose keeping up his tally of one goal per match,Ben and Benjamin getting their second boal each this season and Johnny continuing with his 3 goals, then 1 goal, three goals then one goal etc scoring system !( which is great if he keeps it up coz it means he is on for 3 goals at the weekend when we play our cup match against C&G 'A' Team!)There are plenty of matches left this season for those remaining to open their goal scoring accounts too.
Today's match was, for Benny, an exercise in seamless subbing. Everyone came off at least once and returned to the game mostly in a different position. This was great to see as it showed the coaches that our team has not just skill and motivation, but also versatility. I am no longer worried about the fact that we have only three enthusiastic defenders when I can see that everyone who took a turn in defence played superbly there. Remember we are still on the look out for another permanent defender, so if you have encountered one on your school team who fancies joining us, get him down on Wednesday night.

Man of match today was Patrick for another all round solid performance. Fantastic form today Patrick .

Richmond Rovers V Galaxy

This was a match during which all those players not mentioned in previous match reports get all the glory. Today was Patrick, Mini, Tinashe, Abdullah and Ben's day. With Travis in Leeds and Elliott and Joe missing we were struggling to put up a complete team.We had eleven and no subs so it was important that we stayed on our feet.

Five minutes in Jose knocks on in from the right. Heads go up and we are determined to repeat our Queensgate performance. We perform brilliantly for the next 23 minutes holding all the possession but again struggling to bury the ball. This despite a stunning cross from Benjamin that was headed just wide by Ben, and another superb shot by Benjamin which drew the Rovers keeper out to make a fantastic save.( This is Nadine writing and I have to stop here and say what a fantastic start to the season Benjamin has had.Tinashe too is having a brilliant start to the season, staunchly defending with strength and accuracy).Patrick, as always, is the safest pair of boots on the pitch, having a great match today.

Richmond kept plugging away causing Patrick to put on the classiest display seen for a couple of seasons, he back flicked the ball on the volley, and then smoothly cleared it forward. Despite this Rovers score.

Ben and Abdullah are doing their best work, clearing and supplying the ball, once to Johnny who scored but had it declared offside.

We can't quite believe that despite all our hard work we are starting the second half with a score of 1-1. Ten minutes in and nothing has changed when Johnny is taken down in the box and a penalty is awarded. Up comes Patrick and cool as you like pops it in the net, starting an avalanche of goals.A throw in from Benjamin, received by Aidan and passed to Johnny gave us our third, whilst increased pressure from Ben got him his first goal of the season.Benjamin opens his scoring with a corner that also crosses the line to make it 5-1. This score doesn't satisfy Johnny though who goes on to plant two more goals in the Rovers' net before the whistle blows.

Final Score 1-7 with a difficult choice for man of the match. Everyone played well but Abdullah clinches it with his super defending.

Queensgate 2 Galaxy 7

First match of the season and we were mad for it! We started with Patrick, Tinashe, Abdullah and Mini in defence, Ben, Benjamin, Aidan and Travis in mid, with Jose and Johnny up front. With no Joe or Elliott we we down to the bare bones of the team with no subs.

I really wish I was writing this straight after the match because my memory of the details is hazy, (glad we took notes) but my overwhelming memory of the match is of a really exciting 55 mins of football. Why only 55? Well five minutes in and we went 1-0 down to Queensgate as they headed in a corner. It took us another 5 minutes to open our account with Johnny right footing it into the net. Heads went up and off we went, with Jose tapping in a second two minutes later. For the next thirteen minutes we had more or less all the possession but struggled with that age old Galaxy problem....finishing! Thankfully at 25 minutes Aidan's right foot just scraped our third goal over the line.

The second half saw Galaxy continue to dominate the game and seven minutes after the whistle saw a beautiful over the top ball from Aidan land in front of Johnny enabling him to land it in the net. Let me say at this stage that all the team were working their socks off. Everyone put in a solid 100% effort and we can't ask for more than that. Barely a minute later Benjamin gets a shot at goal, only to hit the woodwork, allowing Travis to move in and finish it off with style! We were now 5-1 up.The goals starated coming fast and thick....well. kind of, with Travis beating two men on the left wing and then scoring a beautiful goal off his right foot two minutes later. This distracted us somewhat and in our excitement we let Queensgate score. This didn't get us down though and off Benjamin went again down the right wing, had a shot, a little off target which Johnny finished off.

Final score 7-2

Man of the match was Mini who had a fantastic game both defending brilliantly and supplying super balls to the mid-field.

The Derby.

Galaxy V Comets

Crisp evening and kick off on time. Team mostly all present, just Jose absent with family commitments. Match eagerly anticipated by both sides. Kaid, Harry Aidan, Patrick, Benjamin,Travis and Ben just some of the players from both sides with fond memories of playing for the same team at seven a-side. Memories were put away by all though and from the kick off it was clear that the result of this game was important.

Mere minutes into the game resulted in Johnny doing what Johnny does best - placing the ball in the back of the net. We were one nil up and determined to carry on with style. Despite having practically all the possession and all the shots on goal the elusive second goal evaded us for the rest of the first half.

A good talking to had us back out in the second half again dominating the game. The big change here was that Comets team talk obviously consisted of 'mark Johnny out of the game!' And mark Johnny they did. What was sad was that Galaxy management were too slow to acknowledge this and to do anything about it ( we hold our hands up) Johnny, mate ,we let you down. Benjamin was banging cross after cross over to Johnny only for him to be tackled and marked off the ball at every opportunity. Every member of Comets dropped into defence and all opportunities for Travis, Joe, Ben, Mini and Aidan to get the ball up the field amounted to zilch. Fair play to Comets. They ended the game delighted to walk away with a draw whilst we left feeling robbed. Comets are not the team we thought they were and we paid for that. Roll on return match.
