How Wiel Coerver changed coaching forever

Wiel Coerver is a visionary Dutch coach whose systematic approach to player development has had a huge impact on top-class coaching all over the world.

In 1970, Weil was already a successful coach having won the European Cup with Dutch champions Feyenoord. But he wasn't satisfied. He studied the creative, match-winning moves of the great players around him like Johann Cruyff and devised a way to teach them to young players.

Ahead of his time, he was the first to use slow-motion video to understand how great players did what they did. He broke their movements down into simple steps that he could teach to others. He found that, with practice, young players could reproduce these moves and as their ball mastery grew, so did their agility, balance and confidence.

Eventually, Wiel developed his approach into a complete curriculum, the Coerver pyramid. In 1985 he joined with top European coach Alfred Galustian and Chelsea legend Charlie Cooke to bring Coerver Coaching to the world.

FC Bluestar is the only club in the area to switch to the Coerver method.
